Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon is clarifying who in Minnesota is eligible to vote ahead of the March 5, also known as the Super Tuesday primary.
Early voting starts Friday, Jan. 19.
“Here’s who is eligible to vote in the presidential nominating primary, no matter what: Anyone in Minnesota who is 18 years old, a resident of Minnesota, a citizen of the United States of America, and not presently incarcerated. That’s the standard for everyone,” Simon said.
This comes as the Minnesota Supreme Court decides the fate of a voter rights restoration law that would allow people with felony convictions to vote as long as they’re not behind bars.
On Tuesday, the court granted a petition for accelerated review based on a petition filed by the Minnesota Voters Alliance. Oral arguments begin on April 1.
As for concerns around disinformation and security surrounding voting, Simon shared that everything is secure and those saying it isn’t are “knowingly” lying.
Super Tuesday will help play a pivotal role in deciding who the Democratic and Republican presidential nominees will be come November.
