Minnesota Governor Tim Walz continued to raise his national profile with an appearance on Sunday morning's "State of the Union" program on CNN.
He also remained coy about possibly joining Kamala Harris as her running mate atop the Democratic presidential ticket.
"I would do what is in the best interest of the country," Walz said, hesitating a bit after he was questioned by show host Jake Tapper if he would join Harris if he was asked.
"Would that include you being the vice president?" Tapper asked in a follow-up.
Following a pause, Walz responded "We'll cross paths when we get there."
Walz smiled throughout the segment about joining the Harris ticket, and there were a few laughs when Tapper stopped his inquiry by noting that he wasn't going to get a direct answer.
"I usually do direct answer!" Walz said with a giggle.
"Not on that," snapped Tapper, as the segment came to an end.
Walz found himself going viral on social media when he referred to Republicans as "wierd people," explaining to Tapper earlier in the Sunday interview that it was, among other things, a personal observation of Donald Trump's demeanor.
"Listen to the guy, he's talking about Hannibal Lector and shocking sharks, whatever crazy thing pops into his mind," Walz said. "Have you ever seen the guy laugh? That seems very weird to me that an adult can go through six-and-a-half years being in the public eye. If he has laughed, it's been at someone, not with someone. That is weird behavior."
A recent report from Bloomberg indicates Harris has narrowed her list for running mate to Walz, Gov. John Shapiro of Pennsylvania, and US Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona.
Shapiro and Kelly are from swing states that show a very close race between Harris and Republican nominee Donald Trump.
During his rally in St. Cloud on Saturday, Trump said he will win Minnesota "if we have an honest election."
Trump has cited his loss to Joe Biden in Minnesota among examples of election fraud, an accusation that has been proven false.
