Governor Walz and his family have recovered from a bout with COVID.
Walz, his wife, and son all tested positive last month and suffered from mild symptoms right before the holidays.
"We were all perfect examples for this," Walz told Vineeta Sawkar on the WCCO Morning News. "It feels like a cold coming on, but it's not. It's more serious than that, and the potential to spread it is greater."
Walz said they had a quiet Christmas, but were able to get the whole family back together over New Year's weekend.
He said the important thing now for his family is to find out if they spread the virus to anyone else.
All three of them were vaccinated, and had their booster shots before getting sick.
This comes three weeks before the 2022 session begins for the Minnesota legislature.
This year, lawmakers are going to have a $7.7 billion budget surplus to work with.
"This is a good problem to have," Walz said. "We managed our finances well, we reduced taxes in the last session, we've been able to work together."
Walz said they can put the surplus to good use by reducing costs for Minnesotans, and investing in the future through affordable child care, education, and infrastructure improvements.
