Governor Walz is making his second public appearance in Minnesota since becoming the running mate for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.

Following a day of campaigning in Michigan, Walz hops on a plane and heads for his old stomping grounds for Friday night lights.

He'll be in Mankato for annual rivalry game between Mankato West and Mankato East, a contest that's arguably the biggest sporting event of the year in the southern Minnesota community.

Walz taught at Mankato West and was defensive coordinator for the football team, helping the Scarlets to the state championship in 2006.

He's scheduled to address the West football team before the game at MSU Mankato's Blakeslee Stadium, which is expected to be filled past its capacity of 7,000 seats.

Mankato East is trying to snap an 18-game losing streak in the series, which dates back to the 1970's when the city created two high schools.

Walz is staying overnight in Minnesota, and will stop at the Governor's Pheasant Opener on Saturday in Sleepy Eye.

The only other time Walz has made a public appearance in Minnesota since joining the Democratic ticket was last month at the Minnesota State Fair.
