Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is kicking off a statewide infrastructure tour with a $907 million proposal.

Gov. Walz visited a Robbinsdale water treatment plant that was funded in part by a previous state bonding bill.

It was there Wednesday he launched his tour promoting a new infrastructure package aimed at modernizing public safety, housing, and clean water systems.

Walz says the plan includes $113 million specifically aimed at water projects.

"That revolving fund is absolutely critical for making sure project like this get done," Walz told reporters. "And then at the end of the day you see taxpayer costs remain stable. You see a quality facility like this built with union labor in Minnesota."

Walz says the plan focuses on local utilities and safety projects and is designed to address Minnesotan's essential needs.

"It's the core responsibilities of government, safety and security of our citizen,s and the delivery of the basic infrastructure, water, safe roads, schools," Walz noted.

State legislators will now weigh the proposal as they work toward a bipartisan bonding bill before the session concludes in May.

Republicans, and House Speaker Lisa Demuth (R), have been saying since the start of the session they're looking for cuts, not cost increases.

"Our state does not have money right now, and that is a choice that was made over time," Demuth said. "And so that has to be considered."
