You can almost set your watch to it.

Wild Mountain, the popular ski resort located just north of Taylors Falls, opened its first trail on Monday after a weekend that was cold enough to make snow.

All this coming as a pretty big winter storm bears down on the region.

"It's the third-earliest that we've been opened," Wild Mountain general manager Joe Yasis told Paul Douglas on the WCCO Morning News.

"Also, being first in North America is kind of a great honor for us," he said.

Wild Mountain is regularly the first ski resort in Minnesota to open its trails.

The resort's Front Stage Terraine Park and rope tow was open for the first time this season on Monday.

Crews were able to make enough snow during a weekend that saw nighttime temperatures dip below freezing.

"The ski industry is doing pretty well, especially here in the midwest," said Yasis. "With the cooler temps, and the ability to make snow, we're always there, we're ready to go."

It'll be a while before Wild Mountain is fully operational for the winter.

For now, there will be no food and beverage on site, and they're not offering lessons or equipment rentals.
