Someone who purchased a lottery ticket in Minnesota is waking up as a millionaire on Wednesday.
Only one ticket matched all six numbers in Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing to win the $106 million jackpot. The winning numbers in Tuesday's drawing were 2, 8, 14, 20 and 31, plus the gold Mega Ball 17.
"It's a very exciting day," said Adam Prock, the Minnesota Lottery's Executive Director. "Somebody in Minnesota woke up today a multimillionaire."
Officials with the Minnesota Lottery said Wednesday morning that the winning ticket was sold at the Holiday gas station located at 14350 Xkimo St. in Ramsey.
The business earns a $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
"After the drawing we get notified that somebody won and there's a little bit of a process to find out where this is," Prock said. "The winner themselves has up to a year to come in and claim that prize."
Lottery officials say it's the first time that a winning Mega Millions ticket has been purchased in Minnesota since the state first joined the game in 2010.
Tuesday's winner will also have the cash option of $64.5 million.
"We don't give legal advice or financial advice but we recommend you get your ducks in a row and take care what you need to take care of. Then come in and we'll get you processed pretty quickly," Prock added.
Before Tuesday, the last Mega Millions jackpot was won on March 9 with a player in New York winning $128 million.
The jackpot for the next drawing on Friday, April 15, resets to its current starting value of $20 million ($12.1 million cash).
