A woman is dead after an officer-involved shooting that happened Thursday night in North Branch.
Police responded at 9:19 p.m. on a report of an intoxicated and suicidal woman who was armed with a handgun.
Officials say officers found the woman in the area of Third Avenue and Elm Street of North Branch.
One officer discharged a non-lethal Pepperball at the woman.
Another fired their department firearm and struck the woman, who died at the scene despite life-saving measures taken by the officers.
According to a press release, body-worn cameras captured the incident, and the officers who were involved are on standard critical incident leave.
As is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in investigating.
