Xcel Energy will shut down its Monticello nuclear plant as it repairs a broken pipe that has caused radioactive water to leak....again.

The shutdown will occur over the weekend. Christopher Clark with Xcel at a press conference this morning said that not only will the company look at the pipe in question, they will review more.

"We'll do a full, through review not just of that pipe but of our systems around that so we can fully understand what happened here and make the right decisions."

Clark continued the presser to say there is no threat to drinking water contamination. He says the company wants to continue being as open with the community as possible.

"Our employees live and work in these communities around Monticello. We are committed to being a good neighbor and making sure that we maintain that public confidence and trust in our operations."

The weekend shutdown will allow the company to cut out the leaking pipe and repair the damage and possibly coincide with a regularly-scheduled re-fueling shutdown.
