Residents in Monticello and others near Xcel Energy's now-shuttered nuclear power plant will get another chance to ask questions about the two leaks reported over the last few weeks.
An open house is scheduled at Monticello Community Center starting at 5 this evening. A similar event was held on Friday.
Xcel powered down the plant over the weekend after finding a second radioactive leak. The first happened in November, involving over 400-thousand gallons of contaminated water.
The latest leak was smaller, but officials decided to take the facility offline to replace a pipe that they believe was the cause.
They maintain that there is no threat to the public or drinking water in the area.
Cleaning out the contaminated water may take about a year, and the plant may be off-line until the summer.
Despite that, Xcel Energy does not expect any disruption of service.
