Xcel Energy working hard to restore the power for 300,000 people after consecutive nights of heavy storms

"We are prioritizing individuals that were affected from that first round on Sunday," says Xcel

Xcel Energy crews are still trying to restore power after back-to-back nights with big storms knocked out power to thousands in Minnesota.

The recent storms caused close to 300,000 people to lose power according to Xcel Energy's Brandon Cramer.

"So we had that significant event on Sunday night that created system impacts and then another one last night," Cramer said. "Fortunately we had a lot of additional resources here to help offset the elevated outage counts from last night, so we're ready to roll this morning and making good progress getting people restored."

One of those who lost power was Jim Myers from Hopkins.

"I am very impressed with these guys. Xcel's guys are as good as they get, and these three guys are just as good, " Myers told WCCO. "They know what they're doing. So they're gonna have this cleaned up in no time."

Although Myers is one of the lucky ones, Cramer says most will have their power restored by Thursday - which can still seem like an eternity for those who are still doing without.

But Cramer says they're doing everything possible to expedite the process. He also pointed out that those who were effected Sunday night will be taken care of first.

"We are prioritizing individuals that were affected from that first round on Sunday and trying to get that cleaned up today," says Cramer. "And then we'll just be going through our normal cadence of of getting everybody back in, obviously pushing to be as prompt as possible because a lot of empathy and understanding for the the impact that it creates on all of our customers."
