Twins starting pitcher Joe Ryan is on the injured list after an MRI showed he has a mild left glute strain.

Manager Derek Shelton says the injury is not serious, but there's no timetable for Ryan's return.

A lower-body injury like the one bothering Ryan typically affects a pitcher's mechanics.

After limiting the Yankees to three hits in a win in early July, Ryan has had a no-decision and three straight losses.

On July 20, Ryan was drilled for six home runs in four innings in a loss at Cleveland.

He was ineffective in his next two starts, both of them losses to Kansas City.

The loss of Ryan comes as the Twins continue to hang in the race for a postseason berth

The Twins stopped a four-game losing streak Thursday night with a 3-2 win at Kansas City.

That left the Twins tied with Cleveland in the AL Central, three games behind the division-leading White Sox.

Both the Twins are Guardians are a half-game out of the last American League wild card spot.

Friday starts a three-game series at Milwaukee, with coverage starting at 6:00 p.m. on WCCO.

With Ryan out, the Twins recalled righthander Zebby Matthews to start the series opener against the Brewers.

Matthews was the starter in last Friday's win at Seattle, striking out ten in five innings of work.
