Baseball's highest off-the-field honor for former Twin Nelson Cruz.
The slugging DH was named the winner of the Roberto Clemente Award, which is given to the Major League Baseball player who best represents the game through "extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions." It's the most prestigious individual award in the game.
Cruz, who was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays during the 2021 season after two-and-a-half seasons with the Twins, will be honored before Game 2 of the World Series in Houston tonight.
Cruz is the fourth Twin to win the award, joining Rod Carew, Dave Winfield, and Kirby Puckett.
