The wait is almost over, Twins fans! Baseball will soon be back in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, and in preparation for the Twins home opener, the itinerary for the first home game of 2023 has been released.
To celebrate baseball’s return, the Twins have scheduled a daylong celebration that will start with Breakfast on the Plaza with News Talk 830 WCCO and, hopefully, end with a Twins victory.
Breakfast on the Plaza makes its return this year, offering fans who make the trip out to 7th street a free ballpark-inspired breakfast, rally towels, photos, and the potential to win tickets to opening weekend from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Breakfast won’t be the only giveaway next Thursday, as the first 20,000 fans through the gate will receive the team’s new “TC” hat to help celebrate the franchise’s recent redesign.
This year the Twins will be honoring those who have helped break barriers in baseball, as the team unveils a mural celebrating “Women in Baseball” outside Town Ball Tavern prior to gates opening.
This year’s first “first pitch” will be thrown out by Minnesota music royalty, as the 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis will take the mound before the game starts.
The team shared that the National Anthem will be performed by one of the stars from the hit Broadway musical Hamilton. The creator of the musical, Lin-Manuel Miranda, has family ties to the club, as his cousin, Jose Miranda, plays for the Twins.
In between innings, fans who are feeling famished will be able to enjoy a smattering of new ballpark food and drinks, as well as the return of fan favorites.
During the game, fans can catch highlights and replays on the team’s new scoreboard in left field, as it is now the sixth largest in all of Major League Baseball.
The Twins came up short last year, missing the playoffs for the second year in a row, after finishing third in the Central division.
However, hopes are high for this year, as shortstop Carlos Correa resigned with the team during the offseason; pitcher Kenta Maeda finished rehabbing and is set to return after requiring Tommy John surgery and missing all of last year; and several other fan favorites like Byron Buxton and Royce Lewis get ready for another year with the club.
Fans who haven’t gotten their tickets yet can still get in with seats starting at $15, the club shared.
