The first rounds of the NFL Draft are set to take place on Thursday night. After a disappointing end to the season and an already busy off-season, what concerns could the Vikings look to address tonight?
Matthew Coller from Purple Insider joined News Talk 830 WCCO’s Henry Lake to share his thoughts on the draft and what he could see General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah do in his second draft with the team.
With there being no concise decision on who the Vikings might take when their time starts at pick number 23, many have been left wondering what name will be called. Coller says this is because of the depth of talent available to teams this year.
“When you have on the table anything between doing a crazy trade up for a quarterback, drafting a quarterback at 23, going wide receiver, going corner, going pass rusher, or trading back in the first round,” Coller said. “There are just so many options in the first round for them.”
One area he feels is getting the most attention is the quarterback position, as the team decided this offseason not to extend Kirk Cousins’ contract.
Now, Coller says he could see the Vikings making a run at any quarterback, from drafting Hendon Hooker to trading with San Francisco for Trey Lance.
“There are so many options that they have to be looking at, knowing that they don’t have a future quarterback and that Kirk Cousins is going into his last year,” he said. “And yet, they also have all these other needs because the roster got old and expensive.”
With there being so many options, making it hard to predict the outcome, Coller says this could be the most interesting draft for the Vikings in the last decade.
