The U.S. Coast Guard and the Mexican Navy are searching for three American sailors who seemingly disappeared in Mexico two weeks ago.
According to the Coast Guard, Kerry O'Brien, Frank O'Brien and William Gross were sailing aboard a 44-foot boat named Ocean Bound when they were last heard from April 4 near Mazatlan, a port city along the Pacific shoreline in the state of Sinaloa.
The Coast Guard says the trio reportedly left Mazatlan en route to San Diego and were planning to stop in Cabo San Lucas on April 6 for provisions and to report in before continuing on to San Diego.
"However, there was no record of them arriving in Cabo San Lucas or a report in of their location," the Coast Guard said in a statement.
Search and rescue coordinators have contacted marinas throughout Baja, Mexico, with negative sightings of the group or their boat.
Urgent marine information broadcasts have also been issued, requesting all mariners to keep a lookout for the missing sailors and their boat. Anyone with information is asked to contact the U.S. Coast Guard at 510-437-3701.
The U.S. currently has a "Level 4 - Do Not Travel" advisory for the Sinaloa state "due to crime and kidnapping."
"Violent crime is widespread. Criminal organizations are based in and operating in Sinaloa," the advisory says. "U.S. citizens and [lawful permanent residents] have been victims of kidnapping."
