For the first time in nearly 10 years, Burger King’s Whopper burger is getting a makeover. These changes are based on guest feedback, according to the fast food chain.
Next year, the Whopper will celebrate its 70th anniversary. Over the years, other varieties of the flame-grilled Burger King staple have been introduced, including the Angry Whopper with habanero cheese and the Whopperiro, a Whopper-burrito hybrid.
So, what’s changing about the Whopper? First, a new, “more premium” and “better tasting” bun will lay the groundwork for the new version. Burger King also promises better tasting mayo on its Whoppers. It will continue to have “freshly cut onions and tomatoes, crisp lettuce, tangy pickles,” and a flame grilled quarter-pound patty made from 100% beef.
“Over the past several years, we’ve focused on strengthening our operations and modernizing our restaurants to build a more consistent foundation across the system,” said Tom Curtis, president of Burger King U.S. & Canada. “With that work well underway, we’re now in a position to thoughtfully elevate our core menu. The Whopper is an icon, so we didn’t set out to reinvent it. Instead, we elevated it based on direct Guest feedback.”
According to Burger King, the changes are part of a recent initiative inviting guests to call or text Curtis with feedback. Already, the initiative has led to operations and restaurant image changes.
Guests can call or text Curtis at (305) 874-0520 to share thoughts on the new Whopper, or anything about the Burger King experience.
“Tom will personally make as many daily calls as possible, and every message received will be reviewed and responded to, helping to provide important feedback across the business,” said the company.
