Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) shared he agrees with tech billionaire Elon Musk when it comes to his criticism of defense spending.
The remarks from Sanders were made on Musk's social media site, X.
“Elon Musk is right. The Pentagon, with a budget of $886 billion, just failed its 7th audit in a row. It’s lost track of billions,” Sanders said in his post.
“Last year, only 13 senators voted against the Military Industrial Complex and a defense budget full of waste and fraud. That must change,” he went on to say.
Musk, along with biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, has been tasked by President-elect Donald Trump with leading the “Department of Government Efficiency.” The department is expected to “slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures” while also restructuring federal agencies.
The agency will “provide advice and guidance from outside of government” and work with the White House’s Office of Management and Budget, Trump shared when announcing the appointment of Musk and Ramaswamy.
The support from Sanders isn’t the only Musk has received from non-Republican members of Congress.
Last week, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) appeared to say in an interview on CNN that Democrats would benefit from working with Musk to cut the defense budget. Khanna went on to say that the budget is full of “waste, fraud and abuse.”
He also pointed out that the Defense Department “has failed the last six or seven audits.”
“When it comes to cutting waste, fraud, and abuse and opening the 5 primes to more competition, there are Democrats on [House Armed Services Committee] who will work with @elonmusk and @DOGE,” Khanna said in a post to social media that included the clip of his interview.
“Cool!” Musk replied to Khanna’s post.
