When it comes to the energy sources that will power America into the future, President Joe Biden seems to have planted his flag in the movement away from coal mining.

In a speech in California, Biden declared that coal pants have become too costly to operate and that, as a solution to America’s energy needs, coal is too unreliable.

“I was in Massachusetts about a month ago on the site of the largest old coal plant in America," Biden told the crowd gathered at San Diego's ViaSat communications company. "Guess what? It cost them too much money.

“No one is building new coal plants because they can’t rely on it,” he continued. “Even if they have all the coal guaranteed for the rest of the existence of the plant.”

Biden backed both wind and solar energy as what he considers to be coal’s replacements in the energy marketplace.

It remains to be seen how these comments will impact the Democrat party’s election hopes in tomorrow’s mid-terms. The Dems are hoping to win key Congressional elections in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan, states that are home to 24, 15 and 13 coal plants, respectively.

The GOP was quick to negatively amplify Biden’s statement with a tweet from the Republican National Committee that read, “Joe Biden celebrates coal workers losing their jobs.”
