Brooklyn Center declares city emergency, reinstates mask mandate

The Brooklyn Center city council has decided that facial masks will once again be mandatory in all public facilities located in the city, the city council will return to virtual meetings, and declared a city emergency.

The mask mandate is effective immediately for all staff and patrons to all city facilities. In addition, flyers are set to be posted on all doors that lead to city facilities.

The only circumstances where residents won’t have to wear masks include children under the age of two, individuals unable to wear masks because of medical, disability, or developmental reasons, individuals unable to remove their masks without assistance, and those speaking to someone who is deaf or hard of hearing.

“We continue to err on the side of protecting the health and safety of those we serve as well as our employees. This is a measure by the city to act on those principles,” City Manager Dr. Reginald Edwards said in a press release.

The Brooklyn Center Emergency Declaration will remain in effect until its terminated by the city council.
