(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The city of Chicago has introduced a new brand of drinking water — one with a story to tell.

Outside Chicago’s historic Water Tower, Ald. George Cardenas (12th) on Tuesday helped Mayor Lightfoot kick off a promotional campaign designed to highlight the city’s drinking water and its role in Chicago’s history.

The Lightfoot Administration is calling the brand of water Chicagwa. Get it? It’s basically a blend of the words “Chicago” and “agua,” the Spanish word for water.

The marketing campaign emphasizes the quality of Chicago’s drinking water and its source, Lake Michigan. As part of the effort, the city is even putting tap water in limited-edition “Chicagwa” cans featuring designs from six different artists.

You might wonder who’s going to buy them. No one, actually. The cans will be given away free at city events and a variety of places this summer.
