If you happened to drive by the Jewel-Osco grocery store in the Chicago suburb of Westmont on Wednesday morning, then you were likely shocked to see a massive display of bananas outside of the store.

After taking three days to build the display, Jewel-Osco and Fresh Del Monte set a new Guinness World Record for the World's Largest Fruit Display with 70,000 pounds of bananas, according to WMAQ-TV.

The grocery store tweeted to tell people to come to their Westmont store on June 8 to see the record-breaking display, nicknamed "Banana Bonanza," and of course, take home some free bananas.

People who stopped to check out the display were allowed to take bananas after 12:00 p.m., once the representative from Guinness verified the amount of fruit.

You may be wondering why bananas were specifically chosen to be put on display and not another fruit, but apparently, local residents really love their bananas.

Jewel-Osco said in a statement that bananas are their number one selling product, and they stock more than 140,000 pounds of bananas on average each day, per WMAQ-TV.

As for the leftovers? All of the remaining bananas were donated to the Northern Illinois Food Bank.

This was not the first giant display of fruit to set a world record this year, as Sunkist Growers and Rouses Markets set the world record for the Largest Display of Citrus Fruits with 40,013 pounds of oranges and lemons in Metairie, Louisiana on Jan. 26, according to Guinness World Records.
