Cops in Louisiana have arrested a man in the country illegally whom they say shattered his girlfriend's windshield, then tried to stab her to death.

"Kenner Police officers arrested 21-year-old Junior Carrasco for attempted murder following a violent domestic incident that occurred in the
4300 block of Williams Boulevard," Deputy Chief Mark McCormick said in a news release. "Carrasco and his girlfriend were reportedly engaged in a heated argument when the situation escalated."

He says it happened around 1 a.m. on Thursday.

"During the altercation, Carrasco shattered the windshield of the victim’s vehicle before brandishing a knife and stabbing her multiple times in the neck and face."

McCormick says responding officers worked to help the woman.  She survived the attack.

"After the assault, Carrasco fled the area and barricaded himself inside his residence near Florida Avenue and 42nd Street. Kenner Police activated its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, and after several hours of negotiations, Carrasco surrendered peacefully."

He is now charged with attempted murder and immigration violations.

"Carrasco has an extensive criminal history, including prior arrests for theft, resisting an officer, simple battery, and simple robbery. He is also a confirmed member of the MS-13 gang, as documented in law enforcement databases. Additionally, Carrasco was determined to be an undocumented alien, and a detainer has been issued by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)."

Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley said, “I commend the men and women of the Kenner Police Department and the KPD SWAT team for taking
necessary measures to ensure a safe resolution to this violent situation. Obviously, this dangerous individual should have never been in the streets of Kenner, and we will continue to do our job of keeping Kenner safe.”
