Former President Donald Trump reportedly made some bizarre comments about dating former Speaker Nancy Pelosi while in Washington, D.C. on Thursday.
Trump returned to Capitol Hill for the first time since being convicted of 34 felony charges related to hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels, to meet privately with congressional Republicans -- including some contenders on his VP shortlist.
Things reportedly took an odd turn when Trump started making comments about Pelosi, according to Punchbowl News' Jake Sherman, who was live-tweeting tidbits from the closed-door meetings.
"I dont know what this means, really. But this is what he told a group of House Rs," Sherman posted on X.
He went on to share Trump's "close to exact quote" to House Republicans: "Nancy Pelosi's daughter is a whacko, her daughter told me if things were different Nancy and I would be perfect together, there's an age difference though." Trump is 77 years old to Pelosi's 84.
The comment almost immediately caught the attention of Pelosi's daughter, Christine, who replied to Sherman's post.
"Speaking for all 4 Pelosi daughters — this is a LIE," she said. "His deceitful, deranged obsession with our mother is yet another reason Donald Trump is unwell, unhinged and unfit to step foot anywhere near her — or the White House."
While Pelosi herself has not commented on Trump's remarks, she did criticize his visit to Capitol Hill, saying in a statement to The Hill that the former president is on a "mission of dismantling our democracy."
"Today, the instigator of an insurrection is returning to the scene of the crime. January 6th was a crime against the Capitol, that saw Nazi and Confederate flags flying under the dome that Lincoln built. It was a crime against the Constitution and its peaceful transfer of power, in a desperate attempt to cling to power," the statement said. "And it was a crime against Members, heroic police officers and staff, that resulted in death, injury and trauma that endure to this day."
"With his pledges to be a dictator on day one and seek revenge against his political opponents, Donald Trump comes to Capitol Hill today with the same mission of dismantling our democracy," she continued. "But make no mistake — Trump has already cemented his legacy of shame in our hallowed halls."
