On Sunday afternoon, a gas explosion at an apartment complex in Georgia left multiple people injured and some residents trapped inside, according to local authorities.

The explosion happened at the Arrive Perimeter apartment complex in Dunwoody, just 30 minutes outside of Atlanta.

Some took to social media to share what was happening with the complex and picturing the damage done to the building.

WSB-TV reported that multiple were injured, with some experiencing severe burns. Those injured were transported to local hospitals.

Police said they were called and arrived at the complex just before the blast happened, as some residents were encountering a heavy gas smell. The police were attempting to evacuate residents while they were going to investigate.

Some residents were trapped inside the building following the explosion, police said. However, it is unclear at the moment if there were any fatalities.

“It fairly well blew the building to pieces,” an officer with Dunwoody Police said to WSB-TV.

Police also confirmed that the cause of the explosion is currently under investigation.

According to police, the scene remains “very active,” and updates are expected from the Dekalb County Fire Rescue.
