This morning Fauci shared that he is "very concerned that we are going to see another surge related to that rally," he said on Meet the Press.
Fauci shared that he does find it understandable that people want to continue as if nothing is happening and the pandemic is over. However, he added that until the pandemic is actually over, people need to be safe and avoid mass gatherings like this.
"There comes a time when you're dealing with a public health crisis that could involve you, your family, and everyone else," Fauci said, "That something supersedes that need to do exactly what you want to do."
The doctor shared that people will have the ability to do what they want in the future, but for now, they have to be safe.
"Let's get this pandemic under control before we start acting like nothing is going on," he said. "Something bad is going on; we have to realize that."
For a few weeks now, Fauci has warned that the pandemic is not over. Now, mask mandates have started to return across the country due to increased cases caused by the Delta variant, among other factors.
Stagnant vaccination rates across the country have also been in the focus of health experts who warn that the "moveable middle" will need to get their shots in order to reach the country's vaccination goal.
South Dakota is the 25th state in vaccination rates, with 47.4% fully vaccinated and 53.6% of the state has received one shot.
As for now, cases continue to rise across the country as the Delta variant has become the top strain in the nation.
