Stick with this company and you could wind up moving into a brand new home for free.

A business in central Florida is taking new worker incentives to a whole new level. Instead of offering higher pay or a sign-on bonus to attract employees, the company is giving away two brand new, mortgage-free homes.

Mechanical One, an air conditioning and plumbing company in Alamonte Springs, has purchased two lots and set aside $500,000 to build the three-bedroom, two-bath homes.

"My passion is really trying to reinvent employee appreciation," president and CEO Jason James told the Orlando Sentinel. "Our business model is really, if we take care of our people, they are going to do more for us than any marketing budget."

To be eligible for the home giveaway, employees must be with the company for a full year. Workers also need to complete a financial literacy class and perform 20 hours of community service at a nonprofit of their choice.

"They get a financial education, which helps them get to the goal of owning their own home anyway, and it has an impact on the community," James said.

The company was launched in June, so no employees are eligible to win just yet. James said they're planning to hold the giveaway in December 2022.

Understaffed businesses hit hard by job loss during the pandemic have been trying to lure new employees with incentives like higher base wages, work from home opportunities and hiring bonuses.
