A Florida woman is facing several charges after she had her car burst into flames while she was inside a Florida mall shoplifting, according to an arrest warrant.
The incident occurred while 24-year-old Alicia Moore was inside the Oviedo Mall on May 26. But, while she was allegedly shoplifting, her children were left inside the vehicle parked outside a Dillard’s department store, according to the warrant obtained by CBS News.
Moore is now facing charges of aggravated child neglect and arson in connection to the incident, the arrest warrant says.
After entering the department store, the report says that Moore and an unknown man were seen shoplifting. The two adults were in the store for around an hour when she dropped the merchandise and made her way out of the store after seeing her car engulfed in flames.
Thankfully, bystanders saw the car start to catch fire and acted quickly to rescue the two children inside who were trying to escape.
The arrest report says that one child suffered first-degree burns “to her face and ears,” and both were taken to the Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, CNN reported.
Police are still unsure what caused the fire, but they shared that it’s unlikely the children would have been injured if Moore “was not being neglectful” of children who could not care for themselves.
The arson charge comes from the fire occurring while she was allegedly committing a felony, the arrest report says.
The investigation into the fire remains ongoing and jail records show that Moore has pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against her.
