Rock band Foo Fighters has lost their drummer, Taylor Hawkins, the band announced on social media Friday night.

“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”

Hawkins, 50, was in the middle of the band's South American tour. They were scheduled to play in Bogotá, Colombia on Friday night.

Hawkins best known work was with Foo Fighters. Before joining forces with Dave Grohl, he was the touring drummer for 90's pop star Alanis Morrissette. He left Morissette's tour to join Foo Fighters in 1997.

There is no word yet on what will come of the band's August 3rd concert at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The cause of death is unknown at this point. Hawkins is survived by his wife and three children.
