The Orlando FreeFall ride at ICON Park in Florida is finally coming down.
The amusement ride where 14-year-old Tyre Sampson of St. Louis fell to his death a year ago began being dismantled by construction crews Wednesday. His mother, Nekia Dodd, watched the tower come down.
"I hate it had to come down under these circumstances. It's a bittersweet moment, you know, the ride's coming down. I'm thankful for that. But my son's not coming back."
An autopsy showed that Sampson suffered numerous broken bones and internal injuries after falling from the ride. His death was ruled accidental, but it was later found that his weight, 383 pounds, was almost 100 pounds over the rides weight limit.
Sampson’s family filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer, owner, and landlord of the ride claiming that their son died from negligence to safety.
His family did reach an undisclosed settlement with the park over the death.
