The greatest movie ever made was released 39 years ago today.

Okay, well it’s just my opinion, but “Ghostbusters” starring Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and the late Harold Ramis still holds up for me after seeing it for the first time over 35 years ago.

It was written by Aykroyd and later along with Ramis the script was completed with the late Ivan Reitman directing.

The tale of four men with ghost-trapping equipment was a gamble for Columbia Pictures, but became one of the most popular movies of all-time.

Now it’s been nearly 40 years and since the first one, there was a sequel with the evil Vigo the Carpathian turning New York into an even more hate filled and smile filled city, a remake featuring an all-female lead (which gets more hate than it deserves) and the third official film “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” which focuses on Ramis’ character Egon Spangler’s family.

He died protecting the world from the return of the movie’s first villain Gozer the Gozerian in the movie.

It was a nice mix of nostalgia and also introduced new, young characters played by actors like Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) Paul Rudd and Mckenna Grace.

After 39 years, Ghostbusters is still loved by millions around the world with a fourth movie, tentatively titled “Firehouse” will take place in New York City and like “Afterlife” will be directed by Ivan Reitman’s son, Jason.

That movie is scheduled to be released in December.

A mix of science fiction, humor, cool gadgets and a great cast have helped Ghostbusters stay relevant after all these years.

There has been a couple animated series, 1,000s of products, a Hi-C flavor and even local Ghostbuster groups where people dress up in their flight suits and cars made to look like the classic Ecto-1.

So, enjoy the Ghostbusters with your friends and family soon and remember, “Don’t. Cross. The. Streams.”
