An employee at a North Carolina Home Depot has died after getting shoved by an alleged shoplifter.

On Oct. 18th, 82-year-old Gary Rasor was pushed to the ground by a man who appeared to be stealing three pressure washers.

Rasor, who was working as a cashier in the store's garden center, tried to confront the suspect as he walked out of the store pushing a cart with the stolen merchandise.

The suspect pushed Rasor, who then fell to the ground and appeared to strike his head on a potted plant. He suffered multiple injuries, including several fractures.

The incident, which happened days before Rasor's 83rd birthday, was caught on the store's surveillance video and shared by police.

Rasor died from his injuries on December 1. The North Carolina medical examiner has ruled the death a homicide.

Rasor's wife, Yovone, said her husband recognized the suspect and knew him to be a regular shoplifter.

"He knows the guy is a thief. He's been there, he's seen him in the store before," she told WNCN. "What he told me was that sometimes the guy will buy one or two items so he has a receipt, and then he'll add more stuff to his cart and flash the receipt."

Hillsborough Police are still looking for the suspect, described as a black man about 6 feet tall. Police say the suspect fled the scene in a white, four-door Hyundai Sonata with a North Carolina temporary tag.
