Albuquerque Fire and Rescue responded to the scene of a hot-air balloon accident on Sunday afternoon. Officials shared that one man was treated for injuries after the balloon crashed down on a busy street.

The balloon went down in New Mexico in front of an ABQ Liquidators Bin Store, and one worker shared with KOAT News that he could hear people screaming as it went down.

“Then, a minute later, I heard a clap on the floor. Then I ran outside. I heard people screaming. People were running to the balloon. I saw the balloon on the floor,”,” Mohamed Al Alwan told the media outlet.

Al Alwan said that after he saw the balloon on the street, he started seeing what he could do to help those involved.

“We just tried to see if they [needed] help or anything. Called 911. There was a lot of people that did that. They helped and everything,” Al Alwan told KRQE.

The Albuquerque Police Department shared that they were contacted about the incident at around 1 p.m. on Sunday. The department has called the crash an “unexpected landing after the balloon got caught in a dust devil.”

Police shared that one person was in the balloon at the time of the accident. No further information has been released at this time.
