With Hurricane Ida's winds whipping through the southeastern part of the state, the Chalmette Ferry and an RTA pedestrian ferry broke loose from their moorings in the Mississippi River and were temporarily headed up the Mississippi River, according to St. Bernard Parish President Guy McInnis.

Reports have also come out that the flow of the Mississippi River has been reversed due to the conditions of the hurricane.

McInnis said the RTA's pedestrian ferry, which docks across from the Chalmette ferry terminal, is the ferry that broke loose and headed upstream.

"There is nothing to be done at this moment, but obviously, we've got a ferry in the wind," McInnis said.

Both ferry's have since been recovered after starting to make their way up the Mississippi River.
