In a Truth Social post, President Trump says the Resolute desk has been temporarily replaced in the Oval Office. There are six other desks available to sitting presidents.

Trump says the Resolute Desk is being lightly refurbished.

While there's no official word on why it needed to be refurbished or why the desks were swapped, Mr. Trump's decision comes a week after White House advisor and billionaire Elon Musk's 4-year-old son X accompanied his dad to an Oval Office news conference.

There, Musk (also called X) was seen picking his nose and wiping his finger on the desk as he fidgeted and taunted reporters, even the president, while his father held court.

President Trump is a known germaphobe.

Most recently, the Resolute Desk was used by Democratic former presidents Biden between 2021 and 2025 and Obama between 2009 and 2017. Trump also used the desk in his first term between 2017 and 2021.

The post from Trump assures the desk, first used by President Kennedy in 1961, will be back in the Oval Office.
