The FBI has enlisted the help of federal law enforcement across the southern border to assist in Nancy Guthrie's case, with a sense growing there is a possibility that she was taken to Mexico.
TMZ has received multiple ransom notes demanding Bitcoin in exchange for information about Nancy Guthrie's whereabouts, with one note hinting at her being in Mexico.
The person told the outlet in one note to "be prepared to go International” and wrote in another, "I know what I saw 5 days ago south of the border and I was told to shut up so I know who he is and that was definitely Nancy with them.”
The FBI has been in touch with the Mexican government and Mexican law enforcement regarding the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie, law enforcement sources told CBS News. CBS also reports that "the FBI maintains dedicated border liaison agents stationed along the border who work directly with their Mexican law enforcement counterparts on these kinds of situations."
Nancy Guthrie live in Tucson, Arizona, which is about 60 miles from the Nogales crossing into Mexico.
Meanwhile, Madres Buscadoras De Sonora (Searching Mothers of Sonora) told CBS News they were contacted by a Guthrie family member and asked to help in the search. The group dedicated to finding missing women listed information about Guthrie in Spanish to their 1.6 million followers.
Investigators are also reviewing surveillance footage from local Walmart locations, and sifting through the receipts of everyone who purchased an Ozark Trail Hiker backpack at Walmart -- the backpack seen in the surveillance video from Nancy Guthrie's porch.
And they continue to ask the public for help, and any information about the man from the video. The reward from the 88-CRIME tipline was increased on Wednesday to $102,500 — thanks to a $100,000 anonymous donation, the organization said — for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons involved in Guthrie's disappearance. That reward is in addition to a $100,000 reward the FBI is offering.
