Police say a burglar in Virginia got more than he bargained for when he broke into a house and was held at gunpoint by the homeowner.
The incident happened just before 8:30 a.m. Sunday at a home in Fairfax.
The homeowner told police that the suspect, later identified as 47-year-old Jonah Smith, entered the home through an unlocked door and refused to leave.
"During the interaction, the suspect displayed a knife and lunged toward one of the residents," police said in a statement.
The homeowner, who happened to be armed with a gun, fired one round into the floor of the living room, according to police.
Smith was then held at gunpoint until officers arrived at the scene. He was taken into custody without further incident.
No one was injured during the ordeal.
Smith is facing charges of burglary with a weapon and attempted malicious wounding. He is being held without bond.
