KENOSHA, Wisc. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Kyle Rittenhouse took the stand today, defending his actions when he shot three people, killing two during protests in Kenosha on Aug. 25, 2020.
Rittenhouse described being threatened by Joseph Rosenbaum, one of the men he later shot and killed.
"He screamed, 'If I catch any of you [expletive] alone I'm going to [expletive] kill you,'" Rittenhouse testified.
He said Rosenbaum chased him and tried to take his gun, an A-15 assault rifle.
Rittenhouse said he was pursued by a mob shouting, "Get him."
He described the confrontations with three others getting kicked in the face, hit in the head with a skateboard and having a gun pointed at him. He fired at all three at different times and killed one Anthony Huber.
"He grabs my gun and I can feel it pulling away from me," Rittenhouse said.
"What do you do then?" his attorney asked.
"I fire one shot," Rittenhouse responded.
Under cross examination, the prosecutor asked, "Everybody that you shot at that night you intended to kill? Correct?”
Rittenhouse responded, "I didn't intend to kill them. I intended to ... I intended to stop the people who were attacking me."
At one point the judge called a recess when Rittenhouse broke down and was unable to speak.
