James Blue, 51, was allegedly driving while intoxicated when the crash occurred on the 3100 block of North Shore Drive in Orono, killing 24-year-old Samuel Schuneman and 20-year-old Mack Motzko.
According to a criminal complaint, Schueman was found dead in the front seat when first responders arrived, while Motzko was found in the back seat and taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries, Kare11 reported.
The complaint shared that Blue was ejected from the vehicle and found hurt but conscious on the ground about 10 feet from his car. He told first responders that he was “sorry” and said he had been drinking and was “guilty,” the complaint said.
After being treated for his injuries at the hospital, he turned himself in.
Motzko’s sister and Schueman’s girlfriend told authorities that Blue had been hosting a party at his house when he offered to show the young men his Bentley, according to the complaint.
The complaint says that the hospital staff reportedly found THC gummies and crushed-up pills in Blue’s pockets, and witnesses told authorities saw him drinking during the party.
His blood alcohol content was 0.175, over twice the legal limit.
According to the complaint, a “preliminary analysis” showed the car was driving between 94 and 99 miles per hour when the crash happened. The area where the accident occurred has a top speed limit of 45 mph.
