The Allegheny County Sheriff's office says a man wanted on a bench warrant had to be treated Wednesday for some minor scrapes after he fell through a ceiling where he had been hiding when they arrived to arrest him.
Detectives say 45-year-old David Smith, formerly of McKees Rocks, but now living in Delaware, has been wanted since August of last year for a probation violation.
He was allegedly hiding in the attic of a home on Sorento Street in the North Side when officers arrived.
Acting on a hunch, the statement said officials attempted to remove the access panel to the attic to see if he was there -- despite a woman in the house saying he wasn't -- when a foot came through the ceiling just outside of the bedroom closet. He crashed through the ceiling and was taken into custody.
