A bartender was having a few drinks on his day off when he got a text message from his boss at 3 a.m. about coming into work later that day.

The first message from his boss read, “I need you to come in 11am-10pm today, we have an event scheduled and one bartender.”  The bartender politely responded, “no thank you.”

Per News.com.au, this set of a chain of messages exchanged between the two with the boss demanding the bartender be a “team player” and that “it isn’t all about you.  Please come tomorrow.”

The boss added that this bartender shouldn’t have had a few drinks (even on his day off), and that he needs to “always stay ready’ to work, and that being “too drunk is not a good look.”

Least we remind you, this was this bartender’s day OFF!

After more messages were exchanged, the bartender quit on the spot, adding that if his boss notified him at a more reasonable time that they needed him to work an 11 hour shift, he might have been able to work it.

The bartender posted his tale on Reddit, where people were left in shock over his boss’s comments.

One person wrote, “He asked and you said no. He has absolutely no right telling you how you should conduct yourself when you’re not at work.”  Another added, “If they want people to stay ready for work they should pay them for that availability.”
