People trying to log on to Facebook and Instagram yesterday were in for a rude surprise as the social media platforms suffered a complete outage for nearly six hours.

During the time Facebook and Instagram was down, the company lost about $60 million in revenue, which amounted to about $13 million per hour or $220,000 a minute.

And Zuckerberg personally lost about $7 billion!

However, most people are focused on the timing of Facebook going down, as it's on the heels of a huge 60 Minutes exposé from former employee Frances Hagan, who claims that Facebook chose "profits over safety," and other alleged malpractices.

There's still no official word on what caused the outage, but according to CBS News, it appears to have been a problem with the Domain Name System, which translates website names into IP addresses that can be read by a computer.
