Rising rent in Minneapolis is causing backlash from a local non-profit organization calling on the city to make housing more affordable.

United Renters For Justice held a rally and a march on city hall Tuesday following the passage of a motion to direct the City Attorney’s Office on the issue of rent stabilization.

The organization works to provide permanently affordable housing in Minneapolis for renters like Hilda Chavera, who are now being left to fend for themselves amidst impending rent increases.

“I’m 90 years old. If I leave my home, where am I going to go? How much more will I have to pay?” Chavera asked.

Mayor Frey has said in the past he wouldn’t approve a rent control measure if it came to his desk.
