It's time to check your medicine cabinet. A recall has been issued for nasal spray that might be contaminated with bacteria.
California-based Green Pharmaceuticals is voluntarily recalling a lot of its SnoreStop NasoSpray, a nasal spray that works to reduce snoring.
The recall was initiated following Food and Drug Administration testing that found traces of Providencia rettgeri.
The FDA says Providencia rettgeri is rarely associated with human illness; however, in immunocompromised patients, the use of the recalled product could potentially result in severe or life-threatening adverse events such as sepsis or pneumonia.
In non-immunocompromised patients, the use of the recalled product may result in infectious complications that are expected to be less severe and more readily responsive to treatment.
The company has received no reports of illness or adverse events related to the recall.
Affected products include lot 2373/21222 (2373 is printed on a sticker placed on the bottom of the bottle and 21222 is on a sticker placed on the outer packaging). The products were packaged in 0.3 FL OZ (9ml) bottles and sold nationwide in health food stores and online.
Anyone with recalled products should stop using them and return to place of purchase for a refund.
Consumers should contact a healthcare provider if they have experienced any problems that may be related to using this product.
