Harsh words from Minnesota's fifth district congresswoman Ilhan Omar for House Republican leadership.
"(Kevin) McCarthy is a liar, and a coward," said Omar on CNN's State of the Union about the House minority leader failing to act against anti-Muslim remarks aimed at her by Colorodo Rep. Lauren Boebert.
"He doesn't have the ability to condemn the kind of bigoted, Islamaphobic rhetoric that are being trafficked by a member of his conference," she said. "This is who they are."
Video from over the Thanksgiving break showed Boebert speaking with supporters suggesting Omar was a terrorist and was a member of the "Jihad squad."
Boebert tweeted a statement saying she was sorry if she offended anyone in the Muslim community, and later talked with Omar over the phone.
Omar said she hung up on Boebert for refusing to publicly acknowledge her comments.
Boebert said in a statement that she instead challenged Omar to apologize for some of her earlier comments.
Omar said she's confident House Speaker Nancy Pelosi take decisive action against Bobert in the coming weeks, action that may include taking away the Republican's committee assignments.
"She's made another promise to me that she will take care of this, and I believe her," said Omar, who credited Pelosi with relaxing House rules that would have prohibited her from wearing a hijab in the chamber.
