As Tropical Storm Hilary makes landfall in Southern California, Palmdale Mayor Laura Bettencourt is urging residents to stay away from the flooded roads…and any creatures possibly slithering in those waters.
“We are in snake season until the end of October. So where do you think all those snakes are going?” she told KNX News’ Mike Simpson and Elsa Ramon. “They're going into that water, not by choice. So please do not go out and start having fun or paddle boarding or whatever people do, you know, boogie boarding. on't do any of that in the water that we have right now because it's washing all those critters from the desert into that water and you don't want to be in that water with them.”
For those who need help getting shelter, Mayor Bettencourt said Victory Outreach Group will be open on Sunday, from 3 p.m. through Monday at 8 p.m. Those who can’t get to the shelter can call Victory Outreach to be picked up.
She added that the city’s Emergency Operation Center is on standby and “will activate if its needed.”
In the meantime, residents can contact the city’s maintenance staff at 661-267-5338 or can do so online by clicking here.
