The Trump-Pence campaign dropped its objections to having a plexiglass divider near Vice President Mike Pence during Wednesday night's debate against Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris in Utah, the Commission on Presidential Debates said Tuesday night.

Sen. Harris' campaign had requested the barrier as a preventative COVID-19 measure, but the Trump-Pence campaign had argued it was unnecessary.

But Commission co-chair Frank Fahrenkopf Jr. told the Washington Post that the Trump-Pence campaign relented. "They said if Senator Harris feels safer to have two plexiglass dividers up, we have no objections."

Earlier in the day, though, Pence chief of staff Marc Short said, "If she wants it, she’s more than welcome to surround herself with plexiglass if that makes her feel more comfortable. It’s not needed.”

Also of concern is that Katie Miller, the wife of Trump senior adviser Stephen Miller, who tested positive for COVID-19 Tuesday, has traveled to Utah with the vice president. It was unclear what her status was.
