For the first time in 18 seasons, the hit cartoon show "Peppa Pig" featured a family with two mothers in what is being called a landmark moment for the show aimed at preschoolers.

The moment occurred in an episode titled "Families" and aired on Tuesday on Channel 5 in the United Kingdom.

The scene was quick, as Peppa's classmate, Penny Polar Bear, shared with the class what makes each of her two mothers special.

"I'm Penny Polar Bear. I live with my mommy and my other mommy. One mommy is a doctor, and one mommy cooks spaghetti. I love spaghetti," the character Penny said while drawing a picture of her two moms in dresses.

Show watchers seemed to be divided on the episode and its messaging, with some supporting the inclusion and others being against it.

Safe Schools Alliance, an organization that works on ensuring equality among educators in the U.K., shared on Twitter its support of the episode.

"Really nice to see age appropriate representation of same sex couples on [Peppa Pig] with Penny & her two mummies," the tweet read.

However, not all feel the same, with one viewer saying, "That's the end of the Peppa Pig phenomenon. What a shame. Education, not indoctrination."

"Peppa Pig" is more than just a program in the U.K. as it is broadcast in 180 countries and translated into 40 languages. Since it first hit the airwaves in 2004, it has amassed a cult following.

The addition of same-sex parents in the show has been a long time coming, with campaigners petitioning for the addition since 2019.

More than 23,000 people signed the petition calling for the show to be more inclusive of children with same-sex parents.

"Children watching Peppa Pig are at an impressionable age, and excluding same-sex families will teach them that only families with either a single parent or two parents of different sexes are normal," the petition said.
