The public has a chance to see first-hand proposals for the site of the old Lake Street K-Mart.

The open house is in the building’s parking lot at the intersection of Lake and Nicollet in south Minneapolis, and it runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The store closed in 2020, decades after it was built in the middle of a commercial corridor, wiping out a section of Nicollet Avenue.

The proposals for the property include commercial space and affordable housing. Officials say construction for whatever project is decided on will start in 2025.
