Anyone who has been to a Sam's Club in Texas will feel right at home in their hometown store because a bevy of new changes are planned to make every store more like it.

"The $90 billion business, which began as a bold experiment over four decades ago, is entering a new era of transformation, with plans to double membership and more than double sales and profit over the next 8 to 10 years," the company announced in a press release.

Sam’s Club will open 30 new locations in 2025, and renovate 600 stores.

Among notable changes, clubs will eliminate checkout lanes and use instead a scan-and-go model where shoppers will use the Sam’s Club app on their smartphone to select their purchases while they shop.

Then they will pass through a scanner as they exit, which will confirm their purchases and issue a charge. Staffers will be on hand to help with any issues, the company said.

CEO Chris Nicholas says the changes will not result in staff cuts, but rather focus on investing in employees for a better shopping experience.

Nicholas said the changes will help deliver a “seamless, elevated experience” for shoppers.

“This is one of the fastest, most scalable transformations happening in retail today,” he said in a statement. “We’re investing with intention — in our fleet, our associates and the member experience — to become the world’s best club retailer.”
